Mixed and Pure Forests in a Changing World 2010 is an IUFRO conference devoted to various aspects of research on forests (pure and mixed) in a context of global changes, mainly related to climate. Being Portugal located in the Mediterranean region, one of the most affected by these global phenomena, sharing information will be essential for an efficient understanding and answering actual and future challenges. Forested areas are increasingly important in a context of the Kyoto protocol as they constitute one of the most important natural carbon sinks. Additionally traditional approaches of forest management are not so linear and universally accepted for mixed stands. This kind of forest is still unknown in several of its aspects even if so ecologically important. Emerging and future areas of research will be identified. This conference aims at bringing together experts from the various sub-disciplines to share current research and create an interdisciplinary forum for discussion that will include not only the Iberian scientific community, but also experts from other European countries, and from all the world.
